Let There Be Lies

The creation account of the book of Genesis begins with God’s command, “fiat lux.” Let there be light!

Man and woman were then created in God’s image and likeness, and endowed with a human dignity that might be attacked but would never be destroyed.  Man and woman were created with a complementarity and fecundity necessary to propagate the species down through the ages and to the present time.  Great and small alike have shared in God’s creative majesty and given the freedom to cultivate the earth and subdue it, as Scripture describes. 

But God’s sovereignty over humanity is now being challenged by almighty Big Tech.  Big Tech wants to recreate the world, redefine human relations, and reduce the unique characteristics of human beings to a compilation of data points.  The uniqueness of each man, woman and child is reduced to a pile of biometrics.  And how does Big Tech infiltrate the affairs of humankind and dupe its subjects into meekly submitting to its promises of a better life?

By lying.  By deceiving.  By preying upon human weakness with addictive products.  It all adds up to one full-scale war on the truth.

Google and Meta

Google was in the news last week, exposed for lying about how its artificial intelligence service, Gemini, would be unbiased and free of ideological influence.  Read these stories and weep for the truth.  Andrew Sullivan, one of my favorite thinkers and writers, wrote a compelling, must-read piece here.

Anyone who followed how Covid searches were handled by Google’s search engine already knew that Google was about as fair and neutral as an election supervisor in Russia.  Physicians who challenged the government were ghosted, discredited, labeled as threats.  Google receives billions of tax dollars.  So Google is not going to bite the hand that feeds it and “regulates” it.

Google apologized profusely for Gemini’s sins and promised to send its software to a reeducation cloud.  Google learned the value of a faux apology from Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook.  You might have seen his spontaneous, awkward apology to the grieving mothers whose girls paid the price for Facebook’s and Instagram’s lies.  Zuckerberg did the same shtick when the Wall Street Journal exposed how his company, Meta, knew all along that its social media products were designed to be addictive and destructive. 

Facebook’s lies are the industry standard.  “We didn’t know pedophiles might use our features to lure children.”  Lie.  “We have safeguards in place.”  Lie.  “How could we have known that teen girls would become addicted to our products?”  Lie.

But the very addictions Meta exploits are why users still flock to Instagram and Facebook, just as they do to TikTok, another huckster.  TikTok peddles the personal data of its users, harvesting information it promised to protect, like some who extract organs from poor people to provide transplants for the rich.

OpenAI and Amazon

Another Pinocchio Award goes to AI guru Sam Altman, the natural intelligence behind OpenAI, his little baby of generative AI.  He swore this little darling of deceit would be a non-profit exclusively devoted to the common good.  Big lie there.  Even Elon Musk, no stranger to the half-truth or full Monty, had to sue him over that whopper.

And let’s not forget mighty Amazon, who swore that its use of robots in its warehouses would not affect jobs for humans.  Lie.  Now Amazon is funding a company to make faceless humanoids do the work of humans.  Of course, the lying liars pledge that the jobs these robots would do would be the ones no humans would ever want to do, you know, like cleaning the septic tanks at Chernobyl.

There goes your job

Humans will be out of jobs.  Chat GPT will steal white collar jobs by the millions.  This is actually Altman’s vision.  I wrote about this previously.  So, my friends, if you are a TSA worker, for example, start polishing up that resume.  I could go on.  You get the point.  Look at the market value of five of the world’s top seven largest companies as of March 7, 2024:

Microsoft – $3.030 trillion

Apple – $2.609 trillion

Nvidia – $2.293 trillion

Amazon – $1.826 trillion

Meta – $1.26 trillion

The Nasdaq exchange is at an all-time high, thanks to the greed and hype of these companies.  It is a thermometer measuring how tech, biotech, and AI are making the country sick.  Some of my friends say I am too extreme about AI, and that much good can come from these.  The book of Genesis described the apple that Eve ate as tasty, pleasing to the eye, and good for gaining wisdom, too.

Big Tech hasn’t put its nose under the tent.  It is already in the tent, trampling human primacy. The liars are winning.
