Make Time for Art

Art enriches our lives, yet few take part. Why?

A huge majority of Americans say art is important, but only a tiny percent report going to a play, concert or art museum.  Why?  People are too busy, they say, but Arthur Brooks thinks this is the wrong way to look at it.  “Too often, we let the humdrum reality of life get in the way of the arts, which can feel frivolous by comparison, Brooks writes.  “But this is a mistake.  The arts are the opposite of a diversion from reality; they might just be the most realistic glimpse we ever get into the nature and meaning of life.”  He thinks art is as necessary for happiness as food, sleep and love.
